Still all to play for
Football Posted by Steve April 6th, 2008Much like Arsene Wenger, I refuse to concede the Premiership title. It is still there to be won. I would be the first to admit 
that after the Gunners 1-1 draw with Liverpool yesterday, things looked bleak, but then wouldn’t you know it, Boro went and upset the odds again. Annoying isn’t it. They just seem to raise their game when the big teams come to town.
As I see it, this weekend’s big winners were Chelsea who now sit only 3 points behind United and with Arsenal playing United next weekend and United still to go to Chelsea, this is far from over.
With all 3 teams still involved in Champions League stuff as well, this could be one of the best run ins in recent years.
Add to this an FA Cup final between Portsmouth and Cardiff, no wonder this is the greatest game on the planet.

It has all gone a bit wrong, but given the past couple of seasons at the start of the season I’d have said 3rd place would be okay. It’s only when you top the table and then slide it feels bad.
As for the Champs League - Arsenal should have had a penalty but didn’t. Liverpool shouldn’t have had a penalty but did. When things aren’t going your way bad luck follows you.

Sunday should be interesting. My gut feeling is a draw, effectively ending the title challenge by our brave boys, but they are young and will be stronger next year.
It says loads about the quality of the Premier League now that 3 of the last 4 in the Champions League are from the Premiership, and but for a different draw, it could have been all 4. Mr. Platini would not have been happy

Well, that’s that then… all over for another year.
In reflection, it hasn’t been a bad season but it does highlight the fact that this summer, Arsenal need to dig deep and buy a world class striker. The number of chances that Arsenal had today and didn’t finish was embarrasing. Adebayor is good, but the latter part of the season has been a dissapointment and Van Persie’s lack of match fitness has proved that one more top goalscorer is needed.
I’m afraid that the squad just isn’t quite big enough to cope with a sucessful season.
